I wanted to do swatches post on the Sleek Sparkle palette first instead of this. However sadly, I accidentally deleted all the pictures I took for the Sleek palette. But again, I guess the swatches for this quad will be far more useful since the Sleek Sparkle palette is a holiday limited edition and can be quite hard to get now.
Maybelline Stylish Smokes in Amethyst Smokes
Clockwise (top left to btm): Base, Lid, Crease, Liner
L to R: Base, Lid, Crease, Liner
I ordered this quad and the Emerald Smokes quad (which I will swatch in a separate post) from Ulta (They are on Buy 2 get 1 free offer now) while they were on the "Buy one get 2nd 50% off" offer. The offer is available also on Drugstore.com and u can find them here. Shipping was pretty decent and took only about 1 month for the products to reach me. Some may say a month is pretty long but trust me, I had even worst experience when it comes to international shipping.
I'm pretty happy with both quads I ordered, but I kinda wish that I have ordered the Natural Smokes quad instead of the Emerald Smokes since I have alot of green shadows in my collection lately. Color combination wise, both quads have very nice combination for some smokey looks. As for pigmentation, they are OK. But if they were to compared with Urban Decay or Korres eyeshadows, the Stylish Smokes quads are definitely harder to blend/work with. I guess the saying of "u get what u pay for" can be very true here.
What I like:
-The imprint of Base, Lid, Crease and Liner gives clear instructions on how/where to apply
-Very little fall outs (except for the crease color)
What I dislike:
-Harder to blend/work with compare to high end shadows
-Shimmers doesn't show up as well after application
-Doesn't go on brushes too well, hence base is essential
-Color payoff is pretty bad, I went in the palette few times to get it to show on my skin
Overall Rating: 3.2/5.0 (Price gave the product a huge advantage
becos I love cheap stuff!)
If you are starting out on make up, this is a great palette cos it gives a very good direction on which color to apply first and where to apply them. This is also an affordable option if u are looking to add some purple into ur collection. Also not forgetting, u need a base for the colors to really show..
